We are now
in November!! October flew by faster then the speed of lightning (which there's
been a lot of lightning with the rainy season and all). And now Sharon, Codi,
Sarah and I are on our last leg of travels together, off to Koh Rong Island, my
first island experience! One taxi, two boats (one fast the other not so much)
and 8 hours later we made it to our bungalows on the white sandy beaches
of Koh Rong! Although late we settled in with ease on the relaxing and remote
side of the island. Currently we are all vegetarians as I've had to give up
meat due to some health issues but not to worry my spirits could not be broken
while in this paradise and I powered through. Due to all of our limited eating we
were kindly passed between local restaurants whom were all very friendly and
helpful, and we ended up at a little spot called 'In the blue' where an Italian
man named Leo scavenged for groceries from his neighbours just to make us the
BEST bruschetta and pasta I have ever tasted in my entire life!! It's
apparent that we ate there for almost every meal after that! He also became a
bit of a tour guide as the next day he organized the village children to take
us across the murky pond in their makeshift styrofoam boats to the waterfall,
where I proceeded to pretend like I was not drowning even though I was
submerged under the thunderous falls at Leo's prompting, where I could not see
or move, and in order to breath I had to cup my hands over my mouth to prevent
the flow of water from entering my lungs! Not to mention I lost a contact....
By far
though one of the coolest things we've done!
The rest of
our stay was the epitome of relaxing, by eating, sleeping, swimming and trying
our best to gang up on Sharon to beat her at cards as she always seems to win!
We did not
want to leave our oasis but we are always eager to get back to our classrooms
and see the kids! Three days away without their hugs and laughter is enough!
We made it to the island!
Beautiful!
Look what we found!!!!!
Off to the waterfall on our Styrofoam boats
Under the falls! If you look closely I'm actually in the falls behind Codi...probably losing my contact at this point
Made it out but can't see properly now
